Trends are very subjective; you may read about them, but how you relate them depends on your style persuasion. Are you capsule wardrobe kind of person? Do you like a statement trend that you want to experiment with? Are you not gone on trends but like to keep an eye? I think we all sit kind of in the middle. Personally, I like having my staples – blazers, jeans, trousers, a good coat etc etc. Then I like to dabble in trends to inject into this, but it has to be something I like, and not a fad or a “follow the crowd” thing. So to help narrow down what’s out there, here are my top three trends for Spring 2024 that I think are wearable and worth it.

Full Skirts

Ok so not the full on prom but if that’s what you like then go for it. Thanks to the return of SJP as a style icon in And Just Like That, we have that tulle skirt in our subconscious; we always liked the idea of it but how do we wear it? Also, it doesn’t have to be tulle, poplin, light denim and cotton are all excellent fabrics for this. I’m going to reference Sarah Macken’s excellent piece in The Gloss – with a great selection of dresses and written so eloquently as Sarah always does. We have plenty of volume, but balance is key in my view. Keep your body in proportion with some structure on top, like a cropped jacket or more fitted top. I also love this with flats, the unexpected choice of footwear but practicality is essential if this piece is to be worn and not attract moths in the wardrobe.

Denim

Ok so not as much a trend as a staple, however its current Renaissance (pun coming), is probably due to Beyoncé and her epic new album. Country-giving style. Double denim is a divisive look. In my view, I think is a smart casual co-ord that works on every front. To use the most over-used term in fashion, day to night. I love the pairing of an indigo shirt and wide leg or cropped jean with some neutral toned shoes; it looks effortless. Plus you can accessorise to your liking by rolling up the sleeves and layering bangles and rings.

The Granny trend

Yes you read correctly. But let’s take our cues rom some chic Grannys like Bunny from Sex And The City (Trey’s mom) with her array of bouclé jackets, pearl necklaces and gloves. Ok we will leave out the gloves. This revolves around the crop or square cut jacket, peppered with gold hardware and neat seams. In my wardrobe I have two such jackets, one in off white which is such a hard-wearing pieces for over jeans and dresses alike. The second is a variation in blue and cream; one of my tv styling clients On Trend are great for these kind of jackets.
