48 HOURS IN IBIZA WITH HUAWEI

I’m going to apologise on behalf of myself and all the other people on the Ibiza trip with Huawei; we bombarded you with idyllic images of a paradise island in the sun for several days. It was dreamy. I couldn’t stop myself from posting content. My instagram feed had a hue of turquoise all the way through thanks to crystal clear waters that hovered below a fairytale sunset. The power of the Huawei P20 (and P20 Pro that I use) came to life in Ibiza. I had yet to try the Leica camera in such dazzling sunlight that I was excited to see what I could create. And what did I create? Something that could go on a postcard.

The new P20 Twilight (launching Vodafone in September) is a very pretty looking device; the phone’s colours of violet, blue and green are inspired by the Northern Lights; the colour pattern that lights up the sky in the northern hemisphere is depicted in the changing gradient of the phone as it moves through different light. But aside from its aesthetics its functionality is what we need to talk about.

Arriving in the beautiful Seven Pines resort in Ibiza, I ran (literally) to the pool overlooking the Mediterranean, to capture the first look at the light blues of pool water. I was in heaven. The phone’s AI technology can recognise scenery and colours immediately and automatically change the colour and exposure settings to optimise your images. The phone knew I was looking at blue sky and a scene dominated by this shade that it upped the contrast and saturation to make it the main focus of the image. No need for post picture editing anymore, it’s all done for you. Clever, huh?

Later on in the evening, as we watched the sun set at La Torre Ibiza, the phone changes to Sunset mode to warm up the tones naturally provided by the sun and its reflection in the clear sky. Sometimes you think that a camera cannot capture a moment perfectly as you see it with your eyes, but the P20 absolutely can. Also with a little aperture the mood is emphasised. I could have stayed in those moments forever. That’s the beauty of a great camera; you look back at those images and you instantly go back there.

The following day out on the open sea towards the picturesque island of Formentera, we jumped off the side of the boat into the clearest water I had ever seen. Marrying action with scenery, I opted for the Pro settings to make sure I captured each movement. I cannot deny that Ibiza provided the perfect canvas for every image I took.

Onto the night, and we hit the dancefloor at Destino (an Ibiza must-do), to take in the night scene. With the sun setting over the bay at Ibiza town, we watched the lights of the club light up the night. In this half light, the camera inhales the mood.

If there was ever a time that I felt motivated to up my game on my content, it came from this trip. I saw the potential to make an instagram feed that represents ever experience I go through. I felt like I could jump back into my memory with the press of a button. So can I just go and do it all again?
