It’s 4.30pm and I have buried myself in the press room at Somerset House to gather my thoughts and finally sit down with a coffee and get some notes into the blog. Having had a great breakfast meeting with the lovely ladies from The Outnet in the Riding Bank Cafe off Oxford Street, I jumped on the Bakerloo line to take me all the way to the hub of all things style for the next five days. Rendevousing with my lovely friend and stylist Courtney Smith, we headed to the first show of the day!
Borrowing from what looked like Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood, the Scottish inspired collection was a visual feast of tartan, texture and ruffles.
Taking inspiration from Henry Darger, Bora Aksu, brought innocence in through fluid silk, pleats, shorter lengths and a profusion of draping. Bora says “I wanted to open a window into a child’s world when we all had innocent but brave eyes”. What’s nice to see is Bora get his print on in this collection as well. There is something beautifully feminine about this latest season that taps into the world of a child concurrently.
Gosh I was really excited about this one. After the show I had a chat with Zoe about where this collection came from. She said she was inspired by her childhood in Andalucia and the culture that surrounded her during that time. Her use of knits is so wearable and reminded me of something from the Al Hambra. I was totally taken by her last piece though, a printed maxi dress with leather waist and shoulder detail. This collection is a winner in me in terms of her ability to make comtemporary design extremely wearable and accessible. And of course it’s always a pleasure to speak to a designer about their collection. Not only that but I had top seats at this one, right behind Jameela Jamill and Holly Valance!
Finishing today will be the A La Mode show which you can read all about tomorrow.
But the highlight of my day was being snapped a hundred times in my outfit for various blogs and magazines, including Elle Japan! So watch out! Plenty of outfit posts to come tomorrow when we return for day two!
