Pippa Middleton’s bridesmaid dress will probably go down in history. Cowl neck, bias cut, train….ever elegant. And so when Debanhams approached me to try on their take on the dress, well, I couldn’t refuse. Pierce La Fionda at Debenhams have taken the best of the Pippa dress and transformed into a beautifully made, form fitting creation. You can see from the pics we took in store that the gown has an elegant fall; draped along the shape of the body and landing gracefully on the ground and flowing into a short but eye catching train.
The dress itself is comfortable to wear and is double lined! The detail on the shoulder is so feminine and with just a hint of rushing and a thin layer of padding, it gives some structure to this classic look.
What was even more fun about the trying on process, was we strolled around the store to get the opinion of ladies perusing the rails and I was surprised to hear what they had to say. Opinions differed on what category the dress fits into, wedding, bridesmaid, formal..but consensus prevailed on how elegant the dress looks and small details which Debenhams have excelled at with this design, capturing the essence of the original dress (which cost over €30K!!!). One lady suggested that if you wore this dress to your wedding, you could create an heirloom of it…perhaps even eventually make a Christening gown from the material. By taking one design, it is possible to give it longevity. I had thought that it would make a great bridesmaids dress, and wearing cream and white to match the bride is becoming popular. Then afterwards, transform it into a mullet dress, by taking the hem line at the front to below the knee and shortening the train. My fashion imagination could go into overload!
The Pippa dress is available as a limited edition piece at Debenhams from October and is very reasonably priced at €225. Our little survey asked the customers to guess the price – the guesses varied, but there were smiles all round when we revealed how well priced the dress will be.
So ladies if you want a bit of Pippa, to find out as soon as the dresses are available; customers can send their details through to email@example.com
