Velvet boots are a fairly hot trend this season. We have to thank designers Philip Lim and Dries Van Noten for this luxurious trend for our toes this festive season. I think you can style them so many ways, and you don’t have to stick to black. To give you some ideas as to how you can wear them, I’ve collaborated with Irish online shoe retailer, PurpleTag.ie. Purple Tag stock so many great shoe brands including SPM (who made these boots), Vagabond (which I wore at London Fashion Week) as well as Bourbon by Amy Huberman and Clarks. Founded by Steve Graham (who part owns Graham’s Shoes, a permanent fixture at the corner of Exchequer Street and Drury Street in Dublin) and Fred Karlsson who set up DoneDeal, there is a wealth of retail royalty behind the site. I have been working with the online retailer for a few years now between styling segments for Xposé as well as outfit posts for the blog. So, as we are approaching Christmas, we had to do a festive inspired collaboration.
Back to the boots! Firstly, we need to talk about the colour. These are the deepest blue, and adding them to an all black outfit just gives the right suggestion of colour. I’ve never been a fan of brightly coloured shoes so these are just perfect.
Let me tell you a bit about the brand. These are by SPM, which are known for exceptional comfort (even with a high heel!) and a great price point. This Dutch brand is fairly trend driven, and their collection extends to over the knee boots and ankle styles, so if the textured look isn’t for you, they have plenty to choose from.

The backdrop of Dublin’s city centre nearing Christmas is a great canvas for these. To show off the velvet boots I wanted to keep the rest of my outfit very simple. So a little black dress and leather jacket is my reliable outfit choice. One thing to note about these are the drawstring tie around the ankle. I love this, especially when wearing tights, soft fabrics tend to slip, but this is the stopping measure. I also think these would look great with cropped jeans for a blogger inspired styling option.
