Tommy Hilfiger designs classic clothes for men and women that embody something traditional, timeless and effortlessly cool. For menswear Spring Summer 2016, there is a new edge though. One that’s colourful, fashion forward and just a little different from his past collections. I had the privilege of not only being at the showcase as part of London Collections Menswear back in June, but I also got to meet TH himself who was such a lovely gentlemen, who expressed his delighted at the Irish representation (we also covered the event for Xposé).
Starting with classic TH aesthetic, navy and cream back what can seem a basic palette, but one that is perfectly executed through a slimmer leg trouser, double breasted jackets and a casual combination of a biker-style jacket and breton stripe knit. It’s casual in some respects but dashing all the same. I can see this look being a hit by the Riviera. We just need to move there.
For the more adventurous male, colour is in abundance. Bright burnt orange linen suits, mustard overcoats and a deep rich emerald two piece marry to produce a younger vibe. Linen is a key fabric here and by adding colour, we have a renewed interest in a very old fabric. One thing I noted, and loved, was the cuff on most the trouser styles. I think this gave tailoring a contemporary feel, and will make an every day suit stand out.
But the highlight for me wasn’t just about the clothes, nope. It was the models. Oh the model. So I had to get a pic.
And being spoiled, the lovely people at Tommy Hilfiger gave me this amazing outfit to wear from the current collection. This bomber jacket is so comfortable and it has a great shape which most casual jackets fail to do. Add to that a straight leg navy trouser and silk top, and I have one of my favourite looks I’ve ever worn. The outfit is available from Tommy Hilfiger Grafton Street, Dublin
With sincere thanks to Dublin and London teams of Tommy Hilfiger.
