Layering is one of the those style tricks that will become your secret weapon for Winter. It’s commonly thought that adding layers we add bulk to our bodies but that can avoided if you stick to a couple of simple guidelines. So if you have some chunky knits, midi skirts and a couple of pairs of skinny jeans, then let me show you how to use them.
Floral dresses and midi skirts are a good start. If you have a summer dress hanging around don’t put it away just yet. All you have to do to make it appropriate for now is to wear it with knitwear. I picked up this cream roll neck jumper from H&M last week and not only is it warm, it’s a great length and shape for over midis. I took this dress I had from New Look’s summer collection and wore it under the sweater and ta-dah, you have a nice way to reinvent your summer clothes.
Don’t be afraid to go one step further with this! This particular dress has a slit on the side which isn’t great for cold weather. So pop a pair of skinny or cropped flared jeans underneath. You want to stick to fitted styles so your body is still in proportion!

I also love wearing long knits with frilled or tulle mini skirts and opaque tights. The knit keeps them close to your body so your skirt doesn’t do a Marilyn on you. Speaking of tights, invest in some thick black ones to wear with short skirts and boots. I am obsessed with Penneys/Primark 120 denier tights which are about £3/€3.50. I buy them in bulk each season and they wash really well too. They have a nice shine which also makes them comfortable to wear all day. I’m not a fan of matte tights at all! Everything sticks to them!
If you’re not a fan of the midi skirt, then have a look at leather leggings or trousers which are super chic and a popular choice for we fashion bloggers. Layer the same knit over these with some ankle or over the knee boots. When choosing a knit for this, I look for length; I like my bum to be covered so I’ve included lots of links to similar knits above!
