I have been wearing specs since I was four. Now my four year old self was not that happy about this, but my 30 year old self is much more accepting of my specs since the range and styles now available far exceed any retro/milk bottle style I was forced to wear as a youngster to cure my migraines. Thankfully over the years my eye sight has improved drastically and I now only require them for doing this kind of work and watching the telly. But I really do miss wearing them, so much so, I have pairs that are non-prescription which I just wear….well…just because. So I was fairly chuffed to be asked to join the judging panel of the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2012. The lovely people at Karen Millen styled me up in a cherry red chiffon dress with animal print belt and, wearing my vintage style specs, I really did feel the part. The winner, Maria Gildea from Donegal was the perfect choice and upon winning she said ‘I was so excited about getting through to the Irish final. When I entered the competition it was a real spur-of-the-moment thing and I never imagined I would be the winner on the night!”
MC on the night, TV presenter and model Glenda Gilson, was on hand to introduce each of the finalists to the panel of judges as they took to the catwalk. The evening was a glamorous affair with all fashion provided by House of Fraser and styled by Sinead Keenan, make up by Zoe Clarke School of Make Up and hair styling from David Cashman.
