It’s one of the most anticipated shows of the Irish fashion calendar, and I look forward to it. Not only for the glamour, but to see the edit of trends from BT’s most loved brands. The trends this year, are dark. Lot’s of black, velvet, winter prints and layering. Now, each designer will say that their aesthetic doesn’t conform to set trends per se, but we like to categorise things don’t we? So let’s give you a run down of what’s to come, that’s completely practical for next season from Brown Thomas Autumn Winter 2016.
Pretty much every designer showing had a black piece. We default to it each and every winter. It’s safe, it’s flattering. Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Loewe, Mugler and Dior pioneer the darker shade. Watch out for Mugler’s go to LBD for every occasion, and Givenchy’s oversize bomber jacket.
The texture of the season to come, it will reinvent the classic pieces into decadent ones. Dolce & Gabbana’s velvet chandelier dress was a stand out piece; it feels regal without being over the top. Preen uses velvet practically, which I love, it’s easy to style and relatable which is what we want from fashion.
The leaderboard on print is monopolised by Peter Pilotto and Erdem, two of my all time favourites. It was Erdem that we have to thank for the return of Prairie chic, as well as the baring of the shoulders this summer. And that’s a trait that continues through to Autumn Winter. Stepping up to the plate alongside these two are Preen, Alexander McQueen and Gucci, who notably embrace demure, but wearable prints with a bohemian undertone.
So, it’s all gonna be chic for Brown Thomas Autumn Winter 2016, ok?
