My style: Tommy Hilfiger shoes!

I am such a lucky girl I tell you. Simply because one very fabulous design house has given me shoes, Tommy Hilfiger shoes. And why is that? Well the brand have just announced a limited edition footwear collection designed by Tommy Hilfiger and George Esquivel. Featuring brogue and loafer styles for men and women, the shoes are handmade in California by skilled craftsmen using premium, locally-sourced leathers and materials. The collection will launch globally at Tommy Hilfiger flagships in Los Angeles, New York, Paris, London and Tokyo, plus retail stores in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Zürich, Vienna, Milan, Istanbul and San Diego as well as exclusively on tommy.com. And so, I am currently the person in Ireland with these right now. Hence, why I am a lucky girl.

“It has been a pleasure to collaborate with George Esquivel to create a capsule collection of unique footwear,” said Tommy about the collaboration. “George and I first met in 2009, when he was nominated for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. I’m proud to now be collaborating with him as a fellow American designer and to be supporting his California atelier. We incorporated one of George’s designs into our Fall 2013 men’s runway show during New York Fashion Week, and I’m thrilled to take our partnership to the next level by developing this collection. The quality of materials we’ve used is exceptional, and each pair has been artfully handmade. Whether worn with a tailored suit, classic chinos or casual denim, the limited edition shoes are unique and versatile.”

The designs combine Tommy Hilfiger’s trademark preppy aesthetic with Esquivel’s signature quirky details, including bright outsoles, prominent stitching and antiqued leather washing. Designs were inspired by vintage styles with a modern twist, including hand-punched perforations and hand-appliqued logos. The “Tommy Hilfiger + Esquivel” logo has been burned into the leather using a hot branding iron. Soles and heels are polished individually using layers of polishes and creams. The results are unique but elegant, whimsical yet sophisticated. Just 900 pairs of shoes have been produced for the collection, and each pair is assigned a one-of-a-kind shoe number that’s hand-written on the shoe and its hangtag. My shoe number is…

“It has been an incredible experience to collaborate with Tommy Hilfiger to create these limited edition shoes,” said George Esquivel. “I am so passionate about design and techniques used to make high-quality footwear. In all my work, including this capsule collection, I seek to combine clean lines, rugged textures and unexpected colors to form the perfect shoes. I’m very proud of our outcome and have learned a lot from Tommy throughout the design process.”

So in the first of a series of style posts, how have I been wearing these Tommy Hilfiger shoes. Well in the picture below I literally had them an hour and I changed my look completely to suit the shoes. The brogues are quite boyish, but I wanted to add a feminine edge. So I went with a leather mini skirt (very trendy!), patchwork denim shirt which is layered under a tartan blazer. Styled with black opaque tights, I think the shoes just bring the whole look together. So this is the start of a little style journey with Tommy and George, all because I love shoes.
