Marks & Spencer Autumn Winter 2013: Style at its finest

I was very fortunate to be invited to London to attend the Marks & Spencer Autumn Winter 2013 press preview back in May and now it comes to Ireland, celebrated in the beautiful surroundings of the RHA Gallery, Dublin on Tuesday amongst the fashionistas of Ireland. To say that M&S have stepped it up in the style stakes is a dramatic understatement, with a focus on fashion forward collections from Autograph to Per Una. I can confidently say that on my second viewing this week, and topped by the impeccable styling of Catherine Condell, M&S set to have a very successful season indeed. The “London Calling” theme does exactly as it says, with a focus on individuality fused with the emerging trends of London street style. Note; cashmere is a key fabric! “Modern Elegance” has a more pared back tone, with masculine tailoring being brought to the fore, albeit with a feminine touch channeled through accessories and a bit of womanly swagger. Tapping into textures, “Wild Opulence” illustrates through mixed textures like faux fur and leather, that Autumn Winter is luxurious and that layering with such textures is something with which to experiment. No Autumn Winter collection this season is complete without a “femme fatale” mien, rewinding back to the glamour and stylish dexterity of the 1920s (about where Downton Abbey┬á is about now in its current series). Culminating with “Dark Drama” the collection draws to a close paying homage to embellishment and all that shines for the Winter season. Coupled with the eminent Icons campaign, Marks & Spencer Autumn Winter 2013 promises exactly what the likes of Grace Coddington and Karen Elson exude; and that’s class.
