Yep so I have been in London (you knew that already if you follow me on various social media channels!) for London collections mens. It’s a great few days, all dedicated to the best of British menswear designers. There’s plenty to see from exhibitions to presentations to shows, and I love it because it’s just a little less crazy than fashion week. I tend to dress more casually too! Yes, comfy runners!
So what was day one like? Good I tell you. Day one is the most calm, it all kicks off at 1230pm, so you’ve had your caffeine and it’s just before lunch. Today it was all about getting into the swing of Autumn Winter 2015. And I am officially broken in. My day started with a trip to The Cambridge Satchel Company to check out the collection which launches in May/June. It’s all inspired by the vintage matte bag and the shapes seem to be contemporary but pay homage to a more traditional bag. The colours are rich; the tones we associate with colder months like burgundy and a darker kind of tan. I reckon this collection is kind of unisex and I will definitely want one come next season!
Onto my first show, MAN which allows three hand picked new designers to showcase their wares. I was thrilled to see Irish-born Rory Parnell-Moore whose first collection post-study at Central St. Martins was truly inspiring. His collection was beautifully crafted and I’m going to write a whole blog post on it, so stay tuned for that later in the week!
The exhibition space is a great way to discover new names, and I decided to start with accessories. The London Sock company make high end mens socks, and I quite loved their take on houndstooth for next season; all of which are made in Britain. In Ireland, they are stocked in tailors, Collar and Cuff if you would like to check out the current season. Eyewear collection, Eye Respect is a new name to me, and I love their new season designs including a collaboration with Oliver Spencer.
Last on the bill for the day was Christopher Shannon who sent models down the catwalk wearing plastic bags on their head. Definitely a new one for me, and as to his logo heavy collection, I’m undecided so I’ll get back to you on that one!
That was day one round up, more to come tomorrow from my adventures on day two (it was jam packed and I went to the Esquire and Jimmy Choo party!) EEEk!
