STYLING NEUTRALS

This season is all about styling neutrals – whether it’s cream, taupe, beige, camel or even shades of brown, you are going to see this everywhere. These lighter shades are not always the most practical, so we need to find ways of styling neutrals without feeling like we are attracting stains! I have a few key tips to help with adding these to your spring summer 2019 wardrobe. Try a little tonal – and by this I mean wearing the same colour but in different shades across your outfit. At the Xposé Style Sessions in January I did exactly that, by pairing a camel chunky knit with a pair of wide leg cream denims. The result was a neutral toned look that’s more practical. Look at textures such as knitwear, wool coats, leather and suede as easy ways to embrace the colour. Thicker fabrics make it look more luxe. And don’t ignore last season’s favourite of animal print, it looks great with lighter colours.

There are some stand out looks from the global catwalks too that are really inspiring me.

Chloe and Jil Sander have been the winners for me and they really stood out at the Brown Thomas fashion show in January. From Chloé (pic at the top) we see a lot of texture from ruffles to ribbed wool to give the neutrals more punch. Also not the addition of the oversize earrings and belt! Jil Sander is slightly more pared back but it’s the mix of the tones that really hit the mark for me.

Now, if you like the idea of styling neutrals, I’ve picked out some of my favourite pieces online to help with a few little styling tips from each. Click the arrows to make your way through the edit, or click on the image to take you through to the website.
