Going backstage at any show is a real honour, but when Aveda ask you it’s even more special. Known for exceptional hair care, Aveda have been long supporters of designers involved with fashion weeks around the world. And I got to experience this first hand at London Fashion Week last month. First stop was at Roberta Einer (who is new to LFW) and to a full head of brushed out curls to achieve a retro look to complement the collection. Head Hair Stylist Bea Watson told me she used 13mm hair tongs to create small, tight curls which were then brushed out and held using Control Force. This “undone” look will be a huge hit for next season as the 90s takes hold in terms of trends. The curls were styled in different directions to create that faux hair texture. The key thing is to get the look, a foundation is needed, as well as different sized tongs. I reckon this one will be easy to achieve, you just need strong arms!
It was a different story over at Cimone, which went the other direction for inspiration, and married the 1940s with something more futuristic. Models required roll inserts to create height, with the hair braided below. Not exactly for every day wear, but creative for the runway all the same.
Going backstage with Aveda showed me up close, how hard hair stylists work to portray the look desired by the designer. And sometimes the look isn’t always commercial or easy to achieve. So the right products and tools are essential to this. I love Aveda products, especially the Thickening Tonic and Shampure which are every day staple products for me. My hair loves them! In addition, if you are on the hunt for a new hair brush, try their Paddle Brush which is so delicate on your hair even when it’s super knotty.
And to add to how great they are, Aveda will shortly open Ireland’s first blowdry bar at the new beauty lounge in Brown Thomas (from the end of the month). You can get those much loved blow dries as well as really lovely treatments and styles using such cult products like the Shampure Thermal Dry Conditioner and the Damage Remedy Split End Repair. You can also sign up for unlimited blow dries for €80 (short hair) and €120 (long hair) for April and May as a special introductory offer. Not bad huh?
