The Penneys Velvet Dress

This Penneys velvet dress was a total find this week! I was having a browse for work (yes, work ok?) and I stumbled across this little gem. I am loving mini dresses at the moment, which I am styling with a variety of ankle boots and my ultimate styling tool, opaque black tights. These style of dresses are “pop-ons” in that you pop them on and you are done. No thought process necessary, so having a couple in your wardrobe is very handy.

The cut of this is what I love; it has a slight a-line over my hips which is flattering, and the length is good for my height. But it’s really the embroidery that sets it apart from other day dresses I have been perusing. It’s enough detail to not require any accessories, and the colours are muted enough not to be “statement”. I went up a size in this just to give it more fluidity, and so it’s not sticking to me either. We definitely love dresses with sleeves. It just means we can pop them on and we are good to go without having to buy yet another jacket or cardigan to wear over it.

Velvet is such a lovely, luxurious Winter trend and I reckon this one is good for day or night. Today (as I sit in my office!) I have layered mine under a leather jacket to add some edge as the look is a bit pretty. If you want to get your hands on this dress, it’s in Penneys now for €17!
