There is a new shoe obsession and I love it (loafers). It is all down to those people at Gucci. Gosh they are clever. Spring summer brought a practical shoe trend that was flat, but oh so lovely. And the fash pack went mad for it. Alessandro Michele, the label’s Creative Director (and genius may I add) came up with the shoe of the season. Everyone had a pair. I sadly, didn’t. But I plan on investing this year as they are not going anywhere for the new season which is almost upon us. Gucci loafers were so popular, the brand’s group company reported a rise in profit and attributed it to high demand for products like these shoes. Gas, isn’t it? Well if you want the new season pair, expect to pay above €500 depending on the colour and texture you choose. The latest style which is being talked about is even fur lined. But you don’t have to buy the real McCoy to get the next best thing. Gucci have even made a capsule range for Net-a-Porter which still has the designer price tag but at a cost lower than it’s new season loafers which head towards €800.
If you want the high street version, River Island and Zara have some great styles. River Island have come up with styles in gold, black and a vintage style fabric which looks a lot more expensive than their €75 price tag. Zara’s options are both under €50 in black and the leather is nice and soft for such a low price.
So if you want to get the loafer look in your wardrobe, there is choice out there, but the Gucci ones just rule the roost for now.
