28 Jun Diet Coke Fashion Friday!
An AW round up….
It’s not hard to believe that we are thinking about the Winter given that it’s pretty much like stepping into the Apocalypse every day in Ireland right now. The wind would knock you over and combined with torrential rain, has put many a brolly in the graveyard where brollies go to die; The sun peaks out for a moment, sees how rotten the clouds look and ducks behind for shelter; and the fact that one morning not so long ago there was ice on my car….well I don’t need to say anymore. All the big brands seem to be promoting next season’s collections earlier this year, probably because demand seems to be gaining momentum. Despite the general yukiness, I have not once purchased a pair of Wellies! That said, if you plan on going to any kind of festival this year, these are a must have, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that.
Back to the task at hand, where do we start to plan our Winter wardrobe? Right here.
Probably one of the strongest collections yet, Penneys buyers are hitting the mark and rank high on chic and affordability. I totally fell for the soft/waterfall peplum, the monochrome, the romantic colours which are not just for spring and the masses of accessories from stilettos to riding boots.
I saw this collection in London back in April (one of the first AW 2012/13 collections to show to press) and the main characteristic I loved was that statement looks are not just for colourful summer prints. Tartans and textures can create the same bold effect and the warm fabrics make all the more appealing.
These guys have gone for a darker palate with some sultry tones that make the collection really luxurious. Combined with transparent fabrics like chiffon and lace, this is all very ethereal. I particularly like the boho tone the collection has, and having not seen it for real until next week, let’s say I’m pretty excited!
Shoes are staying quite edgy this season with the high top trainer trend of the Summer sticking around, except for Winter there’s glitter! The boot is of course a must and I quite like the riding boot trend that is here (nothing to do with 50 shades of Grey I tell you). These are elegant and you have permission to official channel your inner Kate Middleton.
So from tartan to texture, the high street has you covered. Take influence from these trends when building your wardrobe, you don’t need every trend and invest in things that will last you from 2012 to 2014 and beyond. And the biggest must have is, as always…the Winter coat!
