Want to know how to wear stripes? Well, here’s my take! Stripes were a big trend in Spring Summer 2015, and this year’s catwalk trends have allowed them to stay once more. I often wonder about stripes and their practicality; I think they can make one’s figure, well, broader.
Are they flattering?
So we have to find ways to wear them whereby they flatter. I think it’s best to keep them to one piece rather than the head to toe look, but the high street shops have given us plenty of alternatives for 2016.
Trousers with a vertical stripe will undoubtedly elongate your lower half; watch out for palazzo style trousers with subtle vertical stripes like those from Topshop which will appear this Spring.
Horizontal or Vertical?
I also think a jumpsuit will work with a similar print, and since lengths are getting just a bit cropped this season, you can wear the culotte style trouser with stripes thanks to Wallis. If skirts are your thing, then you can have fun this season.
I absolutely love the sequin skirt which ASOS have in their new collections. The colours are Spring-ly and if you match with a block colour on top it won’t be too overwhelming. Style these with a flat shoe, and you have a fresh look for Spring.
Tops are just a little bit harder to wear, but my thinking is to wear them as layers. Take a look at what Penneys have conjured up this year. Try a stripe under a waistcoat or sleeveless long line jacket to tone down the stripe.
