Harvey Nichols Autumn Winter 2012

I was very fortunate to join the press who descended on Harvey Nichols Dundrum this week to take a look at the new collections in store for next season, including the brand new occasion wear shop. Fitted with the softest carpet, this corner of the store has every gown imaginable to get you party ready, plus for all you Debutantes out there, this is a must-visit. New labels have now hit the floor including Catherine Dean, Jovani and Beulah (a favourite of the Duchess of Cambridge) bringing some glitz and essential sophistication to the traditional full length gown. Here are some of my favourites.

Catherine Dean

The Hong Kong designer really hits the mark with her chiffon dresses in muted tones of green and dusky pink. The selling point for me is the zip detail which adorns these gowns, adding some much needed edge, along with slim leather belts. I love the way she injects a little casual into formal wear. This will defintiely appeal to a younger audience.

Beulah really pulls at my heart strings. It’s elegant, reminiscent of Issa in some ways but a lot more wearable and at a more favourable price point. Kate Middleton loves it (see picture) and the prints are a nice addition to a look that is typically quite dressy.

How great is it to see an Irish label in Harvey Nicks? Fee-G is going places and the combination of dresses and glamorous outerwear to match will be a hit with every Mother of the Bride. What is even more appealing about this, is that  the price is great, reacting to how customers are spending their money and still allowing them to purchase high quality brands. I love the use of blue in this collection.

Rachel Gilbert:

This brand will come to the rescue of every debutante in the country. Rachel manages to balance the right level of glitz with practicality and I just adore how adventerous she is with cuts and lengths. A popular brand in Ireland, I can see this one flying off the shelves! Moreover she is queen of sequins!

Oh and the shoes!

I couldnt fathom how great the shoes are for next season. YSL (I cannot bring myself to call it by it’s new name), Michael Kors, Lucy Choi, Superga and Hunter are all strong for Winter and will make great investments. Here are my picks!
