I was delighted to be asked to take part in the TK Maxx and Enable Ireland campaign, “Give up Clothes for Good” for the second time. This is an amazing cause, and if ever there was an excuse to do a Spring clean of your wardrobe, then this is it. I personally, filled four bags full of clothes which I was delighted to donate, along with the outfit in the below picture. I always want to give a story to the outfits I donate. This one (leather jacket, River Island; dress, Forever 21) is extra special and I thought long and hard about what I would give to someone else who needed it, but who would also give this outfit a new life.
I want to take you back to August 2009, it was the early days of styleisle and I was still working full time in Finance eagerly awaiting my break into the world of fashion. I had been working in Florida for a few weeks and was pretty homesick when I got a call from my fabulous PR asking me to style a shoot for the Sunday World – a run down of the hottest A/W 2009 trends which would also feature on the cover. Well as you can only imagine, you could hear me scream in Dublin all the way from Miami. This was the dream and it was slowly coming true. Not only was I styling the shoot from afar, I wanted to feel the part too. So I bought the floral dress the day before I flew home and paired it with the jacket I had got from my parents the previous Christmas. So, this became the outfit I wore on my very first shoot. It was a special moment for me in my career and I want to channel the positive energy through this to someone else who needs some support.
So clear out the wardrobe, pop it in a bag (special ones are available at TK Maxx but any bag will do) and bring to your nearest TK Maxx and give up your clothes for good.
