Yesterday, the mothership of fashion in Ireland, Brown Thomas showcased it’s current and up and coming Autumn Winter collections to we very lucky members of the press. With 95 looks on show, there were trends galore with an emphasis on newness. Picking up on some current themes from designers like Peter Pilotto, Lanvin and Rokskanda Illincic, I think I can deduce there are about six trends which tickle my fancy.
Oh yes, this is here again this season so do not throw away any peplums you invested in for Spring Summer. From McQueen’s mulberry coloured peplum leather jacket, to Pucci dresses to lace peplums at Alice and Olivia, this is the most flattering shape with skirts and trousers alike.
Dark fruits seem to inspire the palate of designers at Acne, McQ and Victoria Backham. VB stands out a mile with fitted panel dresses with collars; a trend we will see emanated no doubt.
We don’t have to say bye to print this season with London based fashion houses Peter Pilotto, Erdem and Mary Katrantzou staying true to their signature prints. Colours are bright with Peter Pilotto dabbling in hues of green and blue and Mary throwing a rainbow at us. Only disappointing part for me was the structure of these pieces is no way near as eye catching as Spring Summer.
Tom Ford is really leading the way here with that dress which Gweneth wore to the Oscars and yes it was the last look down the catwalk yesterday. It really is truly beautiful, and is does set the tone for cape style coats throughout the collections from McQueen and DVF. A nice alternative to the military style which is also dominating.
It’s all about the body, dresses are form fitting and create an elegant shape. I particularly liked Lanvin (who is going back to some previous collections with waterfall details) and Dolce and Gabbana.
Leather trousers were the mega trend. I lost count of how many came down glued to the models legs. I am so glad I have a few pairs so I can channel the looks of McQueen, DVF, Helmut Lang and Alive and Olivia.
